1879 was the second year that the Morgan Silver Dollar was minted. There were 14,807,100 minted at the Philadelphia Mint, 2,887,000 minted at the New Orleans Mint and there were 756,000 minted at the Carson City Mint. There were some of Carson City variety that had a Capped Die which makes it worth up to $50,000 according to PCGS. The 1879 was also minted at the San Francisco Mint, one variety with the 1878 reverse (9,110,000 minted worth up to $50,000) and one with the 1879 reverse.
