1900-S Morgan Silver Dollar



The 1900-S Morgan Dollar is a bit of a challenge to find. The strike is good and the luster is very rich. There were 3,540,000 coins minted this year at the San Francisco. Although there are really no major die varieties, VAM-3A is a bit out of the ordinary. It features a wide S mintmark over a narrow S mintmark. Since the 1900-S Morgan Silver Dollar is challenging to acquire, it is more valuable than the average Morgan Dollar. In MS-60 grade, the 1900-S is valued at around $250-$300 to a few hundred dollars over $3,000 at MS-66, and then as an MS-67, it can near $25,000.

1900-O Morgan Silver Dollar



The 1900-O Morgan Silver Dollar is decent quality coin to the Morgan series. It was minted as 11,390,000 coins. The 1900-O is easily found in MS grades.  Popular VAMs are VAM-15 and VAM-15A, both dealing with right stars being doubled. There was a wrong strike during this year, resulting in about 1,200,000 1900-O/CC coins. The 1900-O/CC Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the interesting coins in the series. Many collectible die varieties of it are available including: VAM-7, VAM-7A, VAM-8, VAM-8A, VAM-9, VAM-10, VAM-11, and VAM-12. Many of these deal with the position of the mintmark. Pricewise, the 1900-O Morgan Dollar is average, $30 at MS-60, $150-$600 as MS-65 to MS-66, and close to $5,000 as MS-67. The 1900-O/CC Morgan Dollar is a different story, worth about $300 at MS-60 and close to $28,000 at MS-67.

The 1900 Morgan Dollar is an okay coin for collecting. The dollar was minted as 8,830,000 coins for circulation and then 912 proof coins. The Morgan Silver Dollars minted from this year tend to have weaker strikes on the reverse, so the eagle's chest is light. This is due to the new die hub that was used. The coin's quality ranges from terrible to very nice, it's all about finding the nice ones. The proof 1900 Morgan is of better quality. The VAM-11 and VAM-24 both deal with major doubling on the eagle and the arrows. The 1900 VAM-24 Morgan Dollar has quintupled stars on the obverse of it. The 1900 Morgan ranges in price from about $30 in MS-60 to around $700 in MS-66 and $11,000 in MS-67.

The 1990-O over CC was the error coin produced this year. The 1900-O over CC Morgan Dollar in MS-67 condition has sold for as much as $27,500.
