1904-S Morgan Silver Dollar

One key date coin in the series is the 1904-S Morgan Silver Dollar. There were 2,304,000 coins made for this year, most with average strikes. Uncirculated coins are hard to find and can get expensive. Extra fine and very fine coins are decent replacements if you don’t have the money and want a nice coin to fill the gap. The 1904-S Morgan Dollar ranges in price from a few hundred dollars over $1,000 in MS-60 to about $10,000 in MS-65, and then over $45,000 as an MS-67.

1904-O Morgan Silver Dollar

1904-O Silver Morgan Dollar BU

The 1904-O Morgan Silver Dollar is the last Morgan Dollar that was ever minted in New Orleans. Before late 1962, this was one of the rarest New Orleans’ minted coins in the whole series. The strikes are average or so, but the coins are very appealing. The 1904-O VAM-4B is known for die clashing in numerous places on the coin along with a doubled 9 in the date and pitting on the reverse of the dollar. The 1904-O Morgan was minted as 3,720,000 and is worth around $30 in MS-60 and up to $4,000 or so as MS-67.

1903-S Morgan Silver Dollar

Another rare coin of the series, the 1903-S Morgan Silver Dollar is difficult to find in uncirculated grades as well as in higher circulated conditions. It was minted as only 1,241,000 coins, one of the lowest mintages of the whole Morgan Dollar series. The 1903-S VAM-2 Morgan Dollar is very hard to find, especially in higher grades; it is known for a small “s” mintmark. Other than being rare and expensive the 1903-S is a nice find, usually well struck and with nice, appealing luster. The 1903-S is worth about $3,500 in MS-60, about $18,000 in MS-66, and $75,000 as MS-67.

1903-O Morgan Silver Dollar

Although the 1903-O Morgan Dollar was minted as 4,450,000 coins, it was a very rare coin. That is, until the 1960s, when a large amount of them were released. They are found well struck with lots of great luster. The value of this year is odd in the fact that it is one of the lowest valued Morgan Dollars in higher Mint State conditions, but it in the lower uncirculated grades, its value is very high for that condition. The 1903-O Silver Dollar is worth about $45o-$480 in MS-60, about $1000 as MS-66, and then almost $5,000 in MS-67 condition.

1903 Morgan Silver Dollar

1903 Silver Morgan Dollar AU

The 1903 Morgan Dollar is an excellent dollar for collecting. It has a mintage of 4,652,000 beautifully struck, attractive luster coins. The 755 1903 Proof Morgan Dollars are of unfortunately weak strike and not as nice looking as the circulation mintage coins. No die varieties are special for this particular date. The 1903 in MS-60 is worth about $70 and goes up to a very low $3,500 or so in MS-67. The proof 1903 is not much better, about $1,400 in PF-60 and $18,000 in PF-67.

1902-S Morgan Silver Dollar

The 1902-S Morgan Dollar is not a great dollar for collecting. It has good luster  with a generally weak strike that most of the coins show, especially in the center. Only 1,530,000 1902-S Morgan Silver Dollars were struck. Many of the coins have marks from being in the bags. Finding higher grade 1902-S Silver Dollars could be challenging. Due to a lower mintage than that of most Morgans, the 1902-S has a higher value. In MS-60, coins are worth around $400, as MS-66, the 1902-S can be about $8,000 and then at $30,000+ in MS-67.

1902-P Uncirculated Morgan Silver Dollar

The 1902 Morgan Dollar is on the easier side to come by of Morgan Dollars. It was minted as 7,994,000 circulation coins and then as 777 proof coins. The strike is good for most of the 1902 dollars, but the luster lacks. The proof coins are not good at all, with most strikes below average quality. The 1902 VAM-4 can be very difficult to find and is known for a doubled Lady Liberty ear and an extra olive touching the other olive on the branch. The 1902 Silver  Dollar in MS-60 is about $40-$50 and goes up to just shy of $7,000 as MS-67.

1901-S Morgan Silver Dollar

One of the rarest Morgan dollars from the San Francisco mint, the 1901-S Morgan Silver Dollar can be difficult to come by. The 1901-S has a mintage of 2,284,000 dollars, which is fairly low. The luster of these coins is usually decent, but unfortunately, the strike tends to be weak. Coins in MS-65 condition start to get expensive. The 1901-S Morgan Dollar is worth around $500 as an MS-60 condition coin, an MS-65 is close to $3,500, MS-66 is about $11,000 or so, and the MS-67 has a value near the $40,000 mark.
