The 1898-S Morgan Dollar has a mintage of 4,102,000,  a mintage very similar to that of the 1898 and 1898-O dollars. The coin is also struck above the average strike and has appealing luster. The 1898-S Silver Dollar is found often very easily except coins in the higher grades like MS-65+, which can be somewhat harder to find, but not rare by any means. The value of the 1898-S is higher than that of the 1898 and 1898-O. The 1898-S Morgan in MS-60 condition is worth around the $200-$250 range and in MS-67, the dollar is about $38,000.

The 1898-O Morgan can be found in all conditions due to the fact that many of the coins were released from vaults back near the end of 1962. The strike of the 1898-O Dollar are mostly good and nicer than an average strike while the luster is also very appealing. The 1898-O has no extraordinary die varieties to collect. The price of the 1898-O Silver Dollar is around $30 in MS-60 and in MS-67, the 1898-O is around $1,700 and doesn't even pass the $2,000 mark.

The 1898 had a proof coin mintage of 735 and a standard strike mintage of 5,884,000 coins. It is a common coin found in every grade from very worn out to being an MS coin. Most coins are ideal for collecting and come lusterous and nicely struck. The proof coins are some of the best in the whole Morgan Silver Dollar series. There are no notable VAM coins for this year. The 1898 Morgan Proof Dollar is fairly average pricewise, going from about $1,400 in PF-60 to around $30,000 as PF-68. The regular mintage coins go for about $30 in MS-60 and up to a measly $6,000 as MS-67.

The 1897-S has mintage of 5,825,000 and it is easy to find in higher grades. The dollar has great luster along with strong strikes, making it very desirable. All this coin needs is a valuable VAM and it would be perfect. Unfortunately, it does not have that. In MS-6o, the 1897-S Morgan Silver Dollar is worth around $60 or so and then it reaches its maximum value of about $30,000 at MS-68.

The 1897-O dollars are generally poor with bad strikes and luster that is below average. Although the 1897-O is not a key date, it is rare in higher grades such as MS-64+. Nicer coins are out there, you just have to search a little bit harder to find them. The 1897-O Morgan Silver Dollar has no special variety of VAMs. The value of the 1897-O Silver Dollar is worth a few hundred dollars in AU condition, then it goes up to almost $800 in MS-60. It goes up to about $50,000 in MS-65 and its highest value can be around $150,000.

The 1897 VAM-6A Morgan Dollar is the commonly found VAM that has a pitted reverse in some spots. There were 2,822,000 regular coins struck along with 731 proof coins made. Proof coins are equivalent to the quality of the regular strike coins. Unfortunately, the 1897 Morgan Silver Dollar goes for only about $30 in MS-60 and close to a measly $9,000 as MS-67. The 1897 Morgan Dollar Proof is of average value, around $1,400 at PF-60 and up to near $30,000 as PF-68.

Like the 1896-O, it is a valuable coin with a poor strike and fair luster. Unfortunately, unlike the 1896-O, other lower worn grade coins are not as easy to find. The low amounts of the 1896-S Morgan is due to the fact that the majority of the coins were melted back down years after being locked up in vaults. Coins in Extra Fine grade are worth around the $200-$300 range, AU coins go for anywhere from about $800 to $1,000. The 1896-S Morgan Dollar in MS-60 goes for around $1,500, about $200,000 as MS-68, and then in MS-69, close to $400,000.

The strike is not very nice, luster is bad, and they come with many marks on them. It is one of the hardest Morgan Dollars to find a gem Mint State for, however, finding a nice Almost Uncirculated coin is easy to come by and are worth a few hundred dollars. The 1896-O VAM-4 is the mirco O mintmark that is tilted to the right. The 1896-O Morgan is worth about $1,000 to $1,500 as an MS-60, while if found in MS-65 or MS-66, it can be worth about $180,000 up to around $350,000.

The 1895-S Silver Dollar had a mintage of 400,000 and it is rarely found in higher MS grades. The strike that comes with this coin is nice and is accompanied with great luster. Many lower grade MS coins are known to have a lot of bagmarks, making them less desirable. For this year, VAM-4 is a very popular die variety. The 1895-S VAM-4 has a repunched S mintmark over a horizontal S mintmark. The 1895-S VAM-3 is another popular repunched S mintmark. The 1895-S Morgan Dollar in MS-60 is worth about $3,000 with the MS-67 going around $130,000.
