The 1880-O Morgan Silver Dollar had a mintage of 5,305,000 with the Reverse of 1879. Most of coins are nicely struck and it is common to find this year in AU-55 to AU-58 condition. There were two different sizes and styles of the mintmark "O" during this year. The larger of the two mintmarks has a skinny interior and a nice round exterior. The small mintmark has a thick outline circle and small inter-circle. There are around eight major VAM varieties found on this coin. They are VAM-1A (overdate variety), VAM-4 (80/79 variety), VAM-5, VAM-6 (both are 8/7 varieties), VAM-6A, VAM-6B (overdate variety), VAM-39 and VAM-43 (Lady Liberty's ear and eyelid are doubled a bit). The prices of this year range from around $80 in MS-60 up to around $30,000 as MS-65.

The 1880-S Morgan Silver Dollar is a great Morgan Dollar to collect. It is often found nicely struck with beautiful luster. There were 8,900,000 minted, so there are many to choose from. This is often a bittersweet deal in the world of coin collecting because you can find a nice one pretty easily, but it will not worth nearly as much as other coins in the set. The 1880-S in MS-60 is only in the range of $25 to $35 and in MS-67 it's in the $1000 range.
On this dollar, two different size mintmarks were used. While these are not preferred by collectors the VAM-35 is and it has a larger size mintmark that is tilted to the left. Along with the VAM-35, this dollar had VAM-8, VAM-9, VAM-10, and VAM-11, which are overdates of 1879.

The 1880-CC Morgan Dollar was minted two times: the 1880-CC Reverse of 1878 Morgan Dollar, and the 1880-CC Reverse of 1879 Morgan Dollar. The Reverse of 1878 dollar is almost three times rarer than Reverse of 1879 with a mintage of about 120,000 to the almost 350,000. In MS-60 these could go from about $400 to $500 and then from $18,000 and up in MS-67. It all depends what type of die variation the coin has. The major majority of the 1880-CC Morgan Silver Dollars had the date printed over and can be referred to as 1880/79. This leads to the VAM-5 and VAM-6 variations, which are occasionally discovered. VAM-5 is also known as the 8/High 7 variety where part of the seven can be seen through the top hole of the 8. VAM-6 is the 8/Low 7 variety where parts of the seven are seen in both the top hole of the 8 and poking out at the very bottom of the 8.

The first Morgan Dollar of the 1880s was produced in very larges amounts and in many variations of dies. There were 12,600,000 regular circulation strike coins minted along with 1,355 proof coins. They were of average strike quality with nice luster to them. These coins all had the 1879 reverse on them. Because this year was struck so many times, the value of 1880 Morgan Dollars is not very high. An MS-60 could go for $25-$35 and an MS-66 is right around $3000, but the proof coins can go for close to $30,000 in PF-68, which is not bad. A variety of dies were used to make this year including 1879 dies that were just stamped with 1880 on them. These dies are recognizable on some of the coins. When all 1880 Morgan Dollars were minted, there was over 90 obverses and more than 70 reverse produced.
